DFI Day 9 - Steps moving forwards

DFI - Day 9

  • Rachael from Grey Main mentioned a 'prep' week. This is a whole school inquiry where the kids create business plans, make and create items to sell, they have a bank, and money. Paroa could do something like this for financial literacy? Whole school inquiry.
  • Use the learning site to add templates and resources for work so that relievers can access it and see it when they need it. Instead of printed and emailing all the details.
  • Think of ways to record the main modelling and teaching elements of the lesson so that if anyone is not present, this can be rewindable and added to the learning site.
I have really enjoyed taking part in the DFI programme this term. I have learnt so many new tools and 'tricks' that will enable me to be more confident within my digital classroom.

My next steps moving on from today will be keeping the teaching and learning 'rewindable' using the class learning site so the children can access everything we are doing whenever they want. In doing this, this should also help the children to become more independent learners too.

I will also make extra effort to keep in touch and connected with my fellow DFIers! They have been an awesome team! I will miss the laughs and random chats!

So pleased I could round off this positive and enjoyable experience by passing Level 1 Google Certified Educator exam.

Passed! Google Certified Educator Level 1

DFI Day 8 - Dealing with Data

DFI Day 8

  • Created a hangout/meet with Ellen and Tracy. This is part of the google test next week
  • Google forms, how to create a new form and share it
  • My Maps.google.com good to use for geography, history, literacy. If in your novel a character visits lots of places, you can use these maps to plot the journey on the maps. Go into a folder on the drive, click + and select more, then click My maps.
  • Could use my maps to ask the class where did you go on your holidays. Links with google sheets. Can link photos and writing to a pin on the map
  • Use google forms for the kids to complete to add a blog post to the Takutai blog. Name, Post title, link etc.
  • Get the class to analyse the amount of blog post they are doing using sheets and create a chart. Screencastify themselves talking about the chart and the results.
  • Pause screen on Hapara - to get the children to come to the mat and stop what they're doing
Used Sheets to create data about the number of blog posts my children have done over this year. I am going to use this for the class to analyse and (hopefully) increase the number of blog post by creating a blog post leader board and competition.

DFI - Day 7 Media

DFI Day 7

  • Look at OMG tech website for scratch instructions on how to use
  • Live streaming cross country using a drone, rippa finals, athletics/sports day
  • Use studio in youtube to create content and playlists
  • Can create video playlists and music playlists on my channel so you have more control over what the kids are looking at on youtube - add link to learning site
  • Write instructions on Google draw and slides off to the side, when kids publish this will not show up.
  • Pick a path story writing using google slides
  • Using google slides for all planning - comments/reflections down the sides do not show up when you publish.
  • Use google slides for blogger, Google drawing for learning site
  • Text box, select space, select the text box so no cursor, click on the link, paste it.
  • Always insert things from your drive onto the learning site so that every time you are editing that photo or doc/slide on the drive it automatically updates on the learning site

Today I used google drawings to make a Blogger flow chart for my class on how to add a new blog post. I have added this 'how to flow chart' to the learning site.
